How To Get A 6500% Markup
The World Series is coming to my hometown for the first time ever. It’s been pretty exciting around here, even for a semi-non-caring baseball fan like myself. The Colorado Rockies have a section of the stadium called the Rockpile. On game day you can walk up and buy tickets for the Rockpile for $1 or $4. World Series tickets for the Rockpile are $65. So, to get a 6500% markup all you have to do is go to the World Series. Simple.
I was one of the many people in town yesterday that attempted to buy tickets for the World Series online. Being somewhat skilled in the ways of computers, networks, and the Internet (that is my job after all), I was able to land 4 club level seats to game 4. I bought the tickets with the intention of going to the game. I’ve always wanted to see all the major championships live. I’ve already been to a Super Bowl and seeing the hometown team in the World Series is probably (hopefully not) a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
But then I got curious and went to eBay and Craigslist and Stub Hub to see how much the tickets were selling for. Face value of the tickets ranges from $65 - $250. I have yet to see tickets that have gone for less than $500/ticket, often they’re going for much more. So my tickets are listed on eBay. If I sell them I’ll pocket about $2000 profit when all is said and done. If I don’t sell them I’ll go to the game and enjoy myself. It’s not often you get to see the hometown team compete in the World Series, but it’s not often you can double or triple your money with minimal risk and almost no effort either.
Not only would I do that, but I’d rent out my front yard for parking (if you’re anywhere near the stadium)!
